The AThletes Against Cancer (ATAC) team assembled in 2014 from amateur cyclists who share a common goal: the fight against cancer.
The Haute Route Alps 2014 is the team’s first appearance in an international cycling event aiming to support:
- The “Hellenic Association for Molecular Cancer Research” (EEMEK), an academic association, which provides annual scholarships to young scientists in the field of molecular cancer research
- The charity “Association of Cancer Patients, Volunteers, Friends and Physicians” (KEFI), which provides psychological and social support to cancer patients and their families
The idea to unite amateur cyclists for supporting the goals of the above two institutions derives from the long lasting acquaintance between Karma Sports and EEMEK.
As part of its preparation for the Haute Route event, the team will visit the following eight (8) Greek cities: Volos, Karditsa, Patras, Grevena, Kalamata, Ioannina, Nafplio, Sparta and Kalamata.
The aim is to:
- Disseminate the messages of the sponsors and the two charity organisations to the local communities
- Train hard together with the local cycling population thus creating a local cycling movement against cancer
